WELCOME to the
SPEAK AND BE HEARD COMMUNITY
SUCCESS.
Everyone has a personal definition of success. For those who have experienced, and are now successfully managing the depressive symptoms of bipolar disorder or major depressive disorder, success may be measured in many ways: from the basics of feeling well enough to get out of bed, to the complexities of maintaining meaningful work, fulfilling relationships, and personal happiness. All these, and many more unique to you, are possible definitions of success—yours.
Of course, reaching success was probably not an easy journey. In fact, perhaps for months you may not have wanted to get out of bed in the morning, friends and things you once enjoyed didn’t interest you anymore, and just getting through the day seemed overwhelming. Maybe when you sought help it took a while to get on the right treatment plan to help overcome your unresolved symptoms. No doubt your path back to wellness was influenced by a number of factors too: developing an appropriate treatment plan with your health care provider, the caring support of family or friends, practicing personal wellness, and/or encouragement from a peer. Whatever your path, your journey is an inspiration. And so are you.
There’s perhaps no greater source of inspiration than the words or actions of someone who’s “been there” too. You can be the inspiration for someone to recognize and seek help for their unresolved symptoms of depression. SPEAK out. Tell your story. Whether you write an essay, produce a video, create an artwork, craft a poem, or sing a song, share your journey. In doing so, you’ll share more than your success. You’ll share hope. So SPEAK. Others will hear.
